Located in the oldest part of the Hofburg, the treasury is more than just “the” treasury – it is the most important of its kind in the world! If you are interested in the relics and the jewels of the Holy Roman Empire or the insignias of the Austrian Empire, then this is the place to come.
Here you discover the treasures and insignias of more than a thousand years of Western history, starting from the time of Charlemagne. In the treasury you can admire the crown of the Holy Roman Empire and the crown of Emperor Rudolf II, which later became the official Austrian imperial crown. You will see not only different medals of the Empire and the treasures of the Burgundian heritage (especially the Order of the Golden Fleece), but also the legendary gems, jewelry, and other treasures and possessions of the Habsburgs. In addition, the eight-foot-long “Unicorn” and the so-called Holy Lance are exhibited.
Duration: 1 hour
